Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 19, 2026

The short version: Japanese Walking has no accounts and no profiles, and your walk history stays on your device. The only thing that leaves your phone is a temporary, per-walk push token used to update your lock screen during a walk — it isn't tied to your identity and is discarded when the walk ends.

This Privacy Policy explains how Japanese Walking (the "App"), made by Bytamite ("we", "us"), handles information. By using the App you agree to this policy.

1. What stays on your device

Your walks and how you've set the App up — your completed walks and history, your custom interval protocols, your cue and metronome settings, and whether you own Japanese Walking Pro — are stored locally on your device only. We do not operate accounts, profiles, or a database of your activity. This data may be included in your personal device backups (for example iCloud or Finder backups) if you have those enabled; those backups are managed by Apple under Apple's terms, not by us.

2. Lock-screen Live Activity (push token)

When you start a walk, the App shows a Live Activity on your lock screen that updates as the walk moves between its "easy" and "brisk" phases. To make those updates appear at the right second even while your screen is locked, the App registers a Live Activity push token with Apple and sends that token, together with your walk's interval schedule (the phase timings), to a small relay we operate (a Cloudflare Worker). The relay's only purpose is to push the correct phase update to your device at the scheduled times during that walk.

3. Apple Health (optional)

If you turn it on, the App can write a Walking workout to Apple Health on your device when you finish a walk. This is off by default. That data is stored by Apple Health on your device and is under your control; we never receive it. You can change or revoke Health access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health, or in Settings → Apps → Health.

4. Audio & notifications

The App plays spoken cues, chimes, and (with Pro) a metronome during a walk; this audio is generated on your device. The Live Activity updates described above are delivered as part of that walk session. You can manage notification and Live Activity permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

5. Purchases

Japanese Walking Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your name, payment card, or billing details. Apple may provide us with anonymized, aggregated sales information. Apple's handling of your data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

6. Analytics & this website

The App contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. This website (japanesewalking.bytamite.com and bytamite.com) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless measurement of aggregate page views, and Google Analytics for aggregate site traffic. These measure the website only and are entirely separate from the App.

7. Children's privacy

The App is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the App does not require an account or profile.

8. Your choices & control

9. Changes to this policy

If the App changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected here before the change ships.
