The Japanese walking app · for iPhoneWalk fast.
Walk slow.
Repeat.
Aruki is the Japanese walking method, made calm: three minutes brisk, three minutes gentle, repeated. A soft chime and a quiet voice tell you when to ease off and when to push. No gym, no gear — just a walk you can keep.
You've started routines before — the gym, the running app, the diet that asked too much. Japanese walking asks for a walk: three minutes brisk, three minutes gentle, five times. The effort stays small enough to repeat tomorrow. That's the whole secret.
The whole method, in three minutes.
Interval walking training is simple: alternate easy and brisk walking in short blocks. Aruki keeps the time so you don't have to.

“The three-minute pacing actually felt sustainable, and the chime was gentle enough that I didn’t want to mute it.”

Japanese walking, explained.
New to the method? Here's the short version — or read the full guide to Japanese walking, the weekly schedule, the 3-3-3 rule explained, how to do it on a treadmill, and how the apps compare. Or just use the free timer.
What is Japanese walking?
Japanese walking — also called interval walking training — alternates about three minutes of easy walking with three minutes of brisk walking, usually five times for a 30-minute walk. It grew out of interval walking research in Japan. Aruki keeps the time and coaches every switch.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Aruki runs on iPhone alone — your phone coaches every interval from your pocket with spoken cues and a live lock-screen timer, even with the screen locked.
How long is a Japanese walking workout?
The common protocol is 30 minutes: three minutes brisk and three minutes easy, repeated five times. You can tune the minutes and sets to your own fitness with Pro.
Why is it easier to stick with than other workouts?
Because it's just walking. Low impact, no gym, no equipment, thirty minutes — the effort is modest by design, so there's nothing to burn out on. The brisk minutes do the work; the easy minutes make sure you come back tomorrow.
Is the app free?
Yes — the full guided interval walk is free. A one-time Japanese Walking Pro unlock adds custom protocols, a cadence metronome, and full history. No subscription.
